Electronic Seller Faces Fraud Charges For Pretending To Be A Woman

A 28-year old man, Gbenga Yusuf John has appeared before a Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja over unlawful and false pretense in order to defraud unknown victims.
Gbenga was arraigned on three count charge before Justice Mojisola Dada , a presiding judge in one of the newly inaugurated special offences courts in Lagos.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC,  Mr. Ayokunle Fayanju told the court that the defendant in a document dated December 24, 2015 with a caption “Reservation Agreement” presented himself as the owner of one beach condo property (vacation property) with the name James Carter who was born and raised in the United Kingdom, whereas, he is an electronic dealer living in Nigeria.
According to Fayanju, ” Gbenga also sought reservation payment to be made to one Hazel Arlene Strictland whom he claimed to be the welfare manager of his condo.
“He was also alleged to have been in possession of a document addressed to one Robert Sanbor where he represented himself as Michael, owner of condo beach located in Estero, Fort myres Beach, USA.
The offences contravenes Section 6, 8(b) and 1 (3) and Advance Fee Fraud and other fraud related  offences Act of 2006.
In view of the defendant ‘s plea, counsel to the defendant, S.O Obaze urge the court to allow his client to continue in bail granted to him while he was first arraigned.
Justice Dada granted the defence counsel’s prayer and thereafter adjourned the matter till  March 27and 28 for trial.
In a related development, one Chibzor Richard Udorie was also arraigned for allegedly parading himself as a female. 
Chibizor who was also docked before Justice Dada by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for having in his possession, illegal documents.
EFCC said ” The document found in the possession of Chibuzor was dated March 27, 2010 and it reads “Re, Honey I will like to know you more”
“The defendant also pretented to be a white lady who lost her mother while they were in Georgia, United states of America.
“He also presented himself as a white lady whose mother has a house in United Kingdom.
Chibuzor pleaded not guilty to all the three count charges.
His counsel, S.O Obaze also asked the court to allow him to continue in the previous bail granted him earlier.
Justice Dada obliged the counsel his request and also adjourned the matter till March 27 for commencement of trial.
