Fallen Heroes: Akeredolu Seek Help For Families, Survivors

Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the executive governor of Ondo State on Sunday appealed to Nigerians to assist dependants of the nation’s fallen heroes.

Akeredolu made the call at Christ Apostolic Church, District Headquarters, Oke Isegun, Akure, the Ondo State capital, during the church service held in commemoration of the year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

Represented by his Deputy, Agboola Ajayi, the governor observed that besides intercessory prayers, philanthropists should support the emblem appeal fund for the support of the families of the fallen heroes.

He emphasized that selfless services rendered by men of the armed forces engendered the current national cohesion and global peace.

Governor Akeredolu explained that the special day set aside for the armed forces men and women was meant to honour the departed and appreciate the living heroes for the various sacrifices they made during war and operations.

He said: “This celebration is marked annually to kindle our interest in the plight of the families, dependants and relations of Nigerians all over the world.

“The current counter-terrorism operations by the Nigerian Armed Forces have claimed lives of some of our finest officers and men.

“The selfless service of these people have ensured national cohesion and global peace.

“If we remember our brothers and sisters that fell victim of terrorism and insurgency, we would then appreciate  the sacrifice made by officers and men of our armed forces.

“The officers and men of our armed forces and indeed our country, Nigeria, need our prayer. We need to pray that God will grant them victory against the enemies of our dear nation.”

Pastor Henry Ojo of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Worldwide, in his sermon, noted that the fallen heroes fought for the unity of Nigeria, appreciating President Muhammadu Buhari for his efforts in ensuring insurgency is subdued and peace reigns in the country.

Ojo praised President Muhammadu Buhari for the ongoing fight against the insurgency and making the country safe again.

He, however, charged political leaders, traditional heads to work towards the unity and peace of the nation.
