Judge To Chrisland School Supervisor, You Are An Animal

….Sentences Him To 60-Years Jail Term

Justice Sybil Nwaka of an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Thursday  has described a school supervisor , Adegboyega Adenekan as an animal while convicting him of defiling a  school pupil.

The judge sentenced the 47- year old school Adenekan to 60-years imprisonment for defiling a two-year old and 11-month-old pupil of a Lagos-based school.

The judge convict and sentenced Adenekan after finding him guilty of a lone count charge of defilement.

Justice Nwaka held that the prosecution has proven the case of defilement against the defendant .

“The basic elements to consider in this case is that the accused had sex with the child; that there was penetration; that the evidence of the child must be corroborated.

“The victim, in her evidence before the court, she said that Mr Adenakan put his mouth and his hand in her wee-wee (vagina). She also said that the supervisor put his mouth in the vagina of her bestfriend, Jenita.

“The little girl said that Adenekan covered her mouth when she attempted to shout. And that he (defendant) defiled her twice inside the school premise; at his office and at the hallway”.

According to the judge, the evidence of the child that the defendant defiled her twice was evidently corroborated by the medical report from Mirabel Center.

“ I have no doubt that the defendant is the same person whom the victim accused of defiling her and the defendant is hereby convicted accordingly.

“ I hereby sentenced the defendant, Adenekan to 60-years imprisonment, “ she ruled.

She further said: “Children are put in care of teachers and I find the act of the defendant, Adenekan as wicked and I see him as an animal who is not fit to be walking around freely.

“The School should be also be more interested in welfare of the children and should not console perpetrators but expose them.

“This case is just a tip of the iceberg and a lot are suffering in silence and some parents are not bold enough to confront teachers and schools on such development.

Earlier, Justice Nwaka had asked the counsel for their allocutus and the Defence counsel said its has no allocutus to make.

The Defence counsel , Richard Abdullahi said: “My lord, in this circumstances, we have no allocutus to make.”

The prosecution counsel, B.T Boye  said : “ we urge my lord to let justice take its course as this will serve as a lesson to perpetrators of sexual abuse of our children and the school.

“We encourage parent to speak out and to always listen to their children when they talk about their perpetrators.

It would be recalled that Adenekan, was arraigned on Jan. 29, 2018, but however, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of child defilement.

According to the prosecution, the defendant defiled the pupil by having sexual intercourse with her, in contravention of Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011, which provides for a life sentence for child defilement.

The prosecution had called seven witness including the survivor and closed its case on March 14.

The defence provided five witnesses, including Adenekan and the headteacher of the nursery arm of the School located at the Victoria Garden in Lagos.
