LASSA FEVER OUTBREAK! SCHOOLS SHUT DOWN IN EBONYI STATE

Ebonyi state has ordered that the schools in the state be shut down as fears of spread of lassa fever, following the outbreak  of the deadly disease in the state which has claimed the lives of no fewer than three health workers and  left many in critical condition  at Irrua specialist hospital.
The State Commissioner for Education, Prof  John Eke who made the announcement to newsmen in Abakaliki  today (Thursday) said that the decision was taken by the government following fresh case of a mother and her child who tested positive to the deadly disease on Tuesday.
Prof Eke said that to ensure the safety of the lives of school children in the state, all the  schools both public and private  will to remain closed till Friday next week and warned parents to be mindful of who they relate with and ensure that they keep their environment clean.
Managements of different schools were already on ground to ensure that students who came to school  returned back home.
