..Says Chrisland Supervisor Threatens To Kill Her Family
The trial of Adeneken Adegboyega, accused of defiling a two and 11 month-old girl (name witheld) continued on Wednesday as the mother of the victim narrated how her daughter was allegedly raped.
The mother who refused to tell the court her name explained that mentioning her daughter’s name would make it easier for her daughter to be identified and be subjected to social stigma.
The defence team led by Olatunde Adejuyigbe, SAN however objected to the request insisting that the mother who had earlier make statement to the police be mention.
While admitting the need of protecting the child, Adejuyigbe pointed out that the prosecution would have thought of the defendant and his family suffering a similar damage and social stigma since justice was meant for the victim and the defendant.
He added that the video and pictures of the defendant had gone viral.
Adejuyigbe then suggested that instead of the witness, whose identity was vital to the trial, not to mention her name as required by law, she should rather be excluded.
Then trial judge, Justice Sybil Nwaka ruled that she should mention her name, which she did.
In her testimony, the mother who also identified herself as a publicist and scriptwriter told the court that she became aware that her daughter had been defiled after an incident that happened in 2016.
She stated that after reading a book titled “No, Don’t Go There” she took her daughter to the restroom and was casually explaining to her parts of her body that nobody should touch, when suddenly her daughter began to narrate how her school supervisor had been sexually abusing her.
” I was shocked at all the things my daughter started saying. She began to say ‘he use his weewee to touch my weewee. I immediately contacted my husband who was abroad. I also contacted her school teacher and told her what my daughter was saying.
” The next day being a Friday, I took my daughter to the school and told her teacher all that she told me. That same day, I took my daughter to a paediatrician at Heritage hospital who later confirmed that she has been abused.”
The mother further said that on the next day being a weekend, she called the defendant to warn him to desist from abusing her daughter.
“I called him and warned him to stop abusing me daughter. He then responded saying he has heard all I have said. He then added that even if I report that matter, nobody will believe me.” She said.
The mother further narrated that at the instruction of her husband, she later reported the matter to the police in Area F Police command, Ikeja, Lagos.
She also stated that the matter was later referred to the Mirabel Centre where medical examination was carried out on her daughter.
During cross examination by the defence counsel, the victim’s mother however told the court that she at some point during the incident called the defendant and told him that the incident never happened and that anytime he sees her daughter, he should be nice to her.
She however said stated that she did that to protect her daughter from stigmatization since she had at some point planned to cover up the story.
The defense team also prodded her on two films she had produced titled ‘twisted’and ‘never happened’ insisting that the entire rape allegation was just a cooked up story by her.
The witness however denied the claim insisting that her daughter was abuse.
Further cross examination continues today.
