#RevolutionNow group on Wednesday in Abuja staged a protest to demand for good governance in the country despite the arrest of their members by the security operatives across the major locations in the Federal Capital Territory ( FCT ).
The security operatives which includes ; Nigerian army , Air Force , Navy and Department of State Service ( DSS ) were deployed to truncate the scheduled protest .
Meanwhile the protesters defied the armed security personnel and converged at the popular Berger Roundabouts and held the protest.
They were later dispersed by the security operatives where many protesters were arrested.
The protesters who were earlier arrested at the unity fountain were said to have been arraigned at a mobile court sitting at Eagles Square for flouting Covid-19 guidelines.
The protest which is taking place simultaneously in many states of the federation and outside the country was to demand for good governance.
Though the leader of the group, Omoyele Sowore was not physically present at the venue of the protest but a member who is a lawyer , Pelumi Jemigbesi who addressed journalists made some demands on behalf of the group .
According to Jemigbesi , the group are calling for the scrapping of the 1999 constitution to pave way for Nigerians to decide a new constitution through a referendum.
“The 1999 constitution is fraudulent document , scrap it and let the people make their own constitution”
Some of the key demands according the lawyer are : ” Abolition of tuition fees in universities and secondary schools.
” Stop the killings in the country and sack all the incompetent service chiefs.
” Stop all estimated billing by the power companies, provide pre-paid meters for free, and communities must have the right to audit the electricity bills they get, and review the licenses of all discos.
” Free all political prisoners now, including El Zakzaky and his wife and employment for the youths.
