Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 41-year old woman, Shade Moke and three others for allegedly beating her house girl to death.
The suspect were nabbed on May 9, 2020 by policemen from Bariga station at about 1130hrs following an information that one Shade Moke conspired with three others on April 29, 2020 to kill one Halimat Sodiq ‘f’ 16 years old over an allegation of stealing.
According to the police in a statement signed by its image maker, DSP Elkana Bala, the victim is said to be a house help to Shade Moke. She was alleged of stealing #2000 from her madam which she denied. That the madam invited the remaining three suspects who tortured the girl to death.
It was gathered that the They buried her secretly at Atan cemetery Lagos, so as to conceal the murder. The four suspects were arrested but they denied the allegations. They however, admitted slapping the girl for denying that she stole the money. They claimed that the girl went into convulsion after drinking water. That they took her to three different hospitals before she eventually died. That the girl was buried by her parents not the suspects. The parents were also contacted for their statements.
A non profit organisation Advocates Children and Vulnerable Persons Network however express fear that Mrs Moke might have bribed the deceased parents to prevent her and the three men from being prosecuted.
According to the organization, The mother of the late Halimot was confirmed to have shown up at the station, after Mrs Shade informed her of the incident on the phone and she had offered money to the mother of the deceased which prompted her to say that she didn’t want to institute any case against the woman, Shade Moke aka Iya popular and 3 others.
Expressing dismay over the behaviour of parents who collect bribe to pervert justice, Mr. Ebenezer Omejilile Manager at Advocates For Children and Vulnerable Persons Network said “The mother should be charged as an accomplice for being so irresponsible. This case should be use as an example to irresponsible parents whose children were killed by cold blooded monsters”
Meanwhile, Mrs Moke otherwise known as “Mama Popular” and other suspects denied the allegation. She added that the parent of the deceased girl was at her burial at Atan cemetery.
However, the Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department Yaba for discreet investigation and diligent prosecution. He added that the suspects will soon be charged to Court.
